THE THIRSTY CANDLE

Introduction- why does the water rise?

Procedure-
            1. Pour the coloured water in the plate.
2. Place the candle in the
3.light the candle
4. Place the flask on it
5. Observe

Explanation-
When the flame fades and goes out, the air in the container cools and cooler air contracts or takes up less space. That contraction creates a weak vacuum – or lower pressure – in the container. High pressure outside the container presses down on the water in the dish. The outside air pushes water into the container until the pressure is equalized inside and outside the container. The water stops rising when that pressure equalization is reached.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN ENERGY and POWER TECHNOLOGIES AND MANUFACTURING

There are numerous way of producing energy which has been listed in the topic sources of energy

EXAMPLE

ENERGY FROM THE SEA

TIDAL ENERGY

  • Depends upon the harnessing the rise and fall of sea level due to tidal action.
  • dams are constructed and turbines convert tidal energy into electrical energy.

WAVE ENERGY
  • kinetic energy of the waves of the sea are used to rotate the turbines.
  • this turbines generate electrical energy.

TECHNOLOGY IN MANFACTURING

In std VIII the chapter coal and petroleum consist of processes involving fractionisation of petroleum under REFINING PETROLEUM.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN TRANSPORTATION

Science and technology in transportation

Science and Technology has regularly changed transportation by making it quicker and more efficient.

        In the unit FRICTION

  • the replacement of sliding friction is done by the rolling friction with the use of ball bearing especially in bicycles.

  • the aeroplanes and other vehicles are designed in such a way that will reduce the fluid friction.

science and technology in agriculture

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN AGRICULTURE

The most remarkable achievement of the new technologies in the substantial increase in the production and productivity of food grains. As a result of improvement in science and technology in field of agriculture has made it easy for farmers to do the farming.

EXAMPLE

SOWING
Seed drill is used for sowing the seeds with the help of tractors. so the teacher can show the video how it works and also can explain the students why it is advantageous.

science and technology in medicines

Science and technology in medicines

Advancement in the science and technology in medicinal area has made the lives of people easier than the ancient time. The discoveries in the field of medicines has made it possible to treat numerous diseases.

EXAMPLE

While teaching about excretion in humans under the topic excretion in animals the teacher can introduce the concept of dialysis which is useful for a person whose kidney has stopped working due to injury or infection.

CORRELATION OF SCIENCE WITH OTHER SUBJECTS

Correlation between Science and History:
While teaching about the various scientific discoveries which had occurred in the earlier periods, teacher can relate the content with history.  Teacher should narrate to the students the incidences which inspired various scientists to found out the medical remedies of various diseases.
EXAMPLE
USES OF MICROORGANISMS
·       How Louis Pasteur discovered fermentation
·       How Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin
·       How Edward Jenner discovered the vaccine for small pox
Such content can be explained to the students by relating it to the history that can increase the interest of the students.

Correlation between Science and environment
Science content should create the awareness among pupil about the environmental problems and should develop a feeling of global responsibility. We should give
examples of how to incorporate environmental concerns into basic science to achieve an awareness of the impact of science on environment.
EXAMPLE
MANURE AND FERTILISERS
While teaching this content we can lay emphasis on how use of manure can be advantageous and how it can be environment friendly.

Correlation between Science and Mathematics
Mathematics is considered to be sole language of science because of which real understanding of science is considered to be impossible without adequate knowledge of mathematics. Some of the useful mathematical tools which are generally used in the science teaching are Algebraic equations, Geometrical formulas, Graphs etc.
EXAMPLE

SPEED
While teaching speed it is necessary for students to know about certain basic rules of mathematics to be applied for example in measuring speed, conversion of km/h to m/s, etc.

Correlation of Science with Geography

In science, we could various concepts relating to the atmosphere and earth. Temperature, wind directions and measurement of rainfall, study about planets, stars, etc. are conducted in the subject of science that is related to geography.

EXAMPLE

CLIMATE AND ADAPTATION

While teaching about the climate and adaptation the content could be linked to the geographical aspect by teaching about different regions like polar region, tropical rainforests, etc.

Analogy between an immunity system and castle

Immunity system                Castle
 (Target)                                (Analog)

Breaking the analogy- the cells involved in providing immunity to our body and the pathogens as well are microscopic where as the castle and soldiers protecting the castle are much bigger than these cells.

Sea animal report

The sea animal report worksheet was given to the students of std viii to find out information about different sea creatures and to write about one they find interesting.

Thursday 19 January 2017

Terrarium

Students of std viii preparing for the terrarium.
By building a terrarium students came to know about the how biotic and abiotic components affects the living things.

Tuesday 17 January 2017

biodiversity

Project on biodiversity.

Through this project on biodiversity students came to know about diversity in the flora and fauna in their locality.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper done by students of std IX of Shri. Gurudas P Gauns Memorial School, Sankhalim on GLOBAL WARMING.
Through this wallpaper students were made aware about the causes & effects of global warming and what we can do to prevent its harmful effects.
